Ungoliax, the Gloomweaver is a unique Boss creature that can be found in Forgotten Depths. Killing her is necessary for The Gloomweaver quest. She is clearly a tribute to Ungoliant, an evil spirit in the Tolkien mythos who appears in the form of a spider. The Forgotten Depths also contain the hero Shelleb, the Darkness, an allusion to another of Tolkien's giant spiders, Shelob.
